Just a quick note to let you know a few with bumps have decided to jump out of Winnie’s classes and into the Richmond Aquatic Centre for our swimming workouts. The off-peak price (weekdays) is $4.00 or you can buy a 10-trip concession for $36.
We will be doing aqua-jogging and help each other with variations to keep up our fitness and tone the areas we need to tone. As we won’t be in a class, we may have to be flexible with our routines – but the more the merrier! They have double lanes open for aquajoggers and will be happy to see us. We are sticking to the Tues/Thurs at 10.30am times for now – we’ll let you know if this changes! Hopefully you’ll be able to come along.
This Thursday we’ll have Adrienne, Donna, Jo and Lorene confirmed to meet up at 10.30am and splash around a bit.

I spoke to the receptionist, Nicki, and she told me about their new programme for Mums and Pre-schoolers on Tuesdays at 9.30am. It’s called the PiggyBack class and costs $10 (first class free to see if you like it). Nicky McCloud is the coordinator and rings to see if you’re coming etc.
The Mums walk with buggies for 30-45 minutes – then hop in the pool for 30-45 minutes with an instructor for aquajogging, aquafitness and swim lessons. While you’re in the pool there are carers for the babies – then you can take them for a swim after your class if you wish. They are becoming quite popular and because they offer a free first class, you might like to check it out!

A beautiful sunny Nelson day for a picnic at Rabbit Island! The bouncy castle was bouncing, the sausages were sizzling and the attending bumps were sunning themselves on blankets in the grass – surrounded by parents with little ones riding trikes and playing. We met quite a few of the Parents Centre committee – very friendly people with some good advice. They are planning another picnic in February – hopefully they will advertise it early so more people can add to calendars. [from left] Gerd, Jonathan & B, Fred & Adrienne finished off the afternoon with a long walk along the beach, drawing lots of sea air into our squashed up lungs – hoping for a good nights sleep!

I hate to say it but it’s that time of year again, the decorations have hit the shops, and there is a hint in the air of the Christmas madness to come. To celebrate, we thought Nelson District Parents centre would hold a Picnic at Rabbit Island, so the whole family could attend. The plan is to get together and provide an opportunity of all members of the centre to take part in our activities, not just those attending courses. So On Sunday 27 November from 12:00 – 3pm look out for the balloons tied to a tree, and a sign marking the spot. Bring your lunch, togs, beach balls …. even a cricket bat, and join in a casual family picnic. We will have a Bouncy Castle and a lolly Scramble for the kids.
If the picnic is a success, and supported by members we will be holding other events throughout the coming year to provide an opportunity for all our members to meet and enjoy each other’s company, and make contact with other families with common interests and similar aged children. We would love to see you all there, and encourage everyone to attend.
We apologise for the short notice of the picnic, but we anticipated our November Newsletter, containing the invitation, would be with you earlier. Nevertheless if you can spare an hour or two we would love to see you. Please let any of your friends who are parents centre members (who don’t have email, or don’t check their emails ), or prospective members, know about the picnic, all welcome.

We are a group of parents with Nelson-born babies in late 2005 & early 2006 living in the south or west of the Nelson region. Membership to Hips & Lips is by invitation of a current member. Although our Mums are the most active members, our Dads are frequent participants to family get-togethers – and our Grandma’s Hips & Lips group is incredibly fashionable! Our primary purpose is the happy socialization of our children and a sharing, caring network of supportive friends living in the same geographic area in the same stage of life.
