Hopefully the purpose of Hips & Lips support proved itself today while we met at Lorene’s beautiful home in Bishopdale. One of our group has felt a little abandoned by her midwife who left for holidays without arranging a backup. So we were able to sort her out with appointments from both a plunket nurse and a la leche league lady at her home this week! The advice and support of others going through the same things as yourself are the benefits to meeting and talking over what’s happening. No-one is alone!
We also were privileged to finally meet wee Isaac who slept the whole time like a little angel – however, his Mum Nadine promises he’s not like that all the time! Breaking news from Heidi – they have named their new little girl Alice.

Thanks so much to Whitnie for hosting our first real coffee group without hostesses! On our own and I think everything is going to work out fine. Thanks also to Daniel who made an awesome banana cake!
Our three beautiful new girls played together today – with visitor Ewan (12 weeks) coming along with his Mum Angela to meet us all. Chloe and Ayla had fun under the activity arch together – they almost seemed to be communicating!
Our new arrivals this week were both on the same day – January 14th, 2006.
B and Jonathan welcomed darling wee Freya Ella Moffat into the world just after noon. She was a slight five pound 10 ounces so she is feeding loads to get her weight up.
Our other new arrival is Heidi’s daughter born 1 week early at 7 pound 3 ounces – no name yet!

Mark your calendars: there will be another Parents Centre day at Rabbit Island on February 26th (Sunday) 12pm – 3pm. It will be in the newsletter about to hit the printers next week, so fingers crossed it’s out to members by the end of January.

It was fun to catch up with two of our first babies at Mum’s Group yesterday. Thanks to Carla for welcoming us into her home and providing yummy things to eat.
After advice from our hostesses, Carla & Heidi, and discussion with the six members attending, we’ve decided on the following plan:
We will have a set Monday morning get-together at 10am for no longer than two hours. We will alternate hosting by asking for a volunteer from the attending members – or you may schedule ahead with Adrienne who will keep the details up-to-date and send email with future scheduled get-togethers. You may wish to invite members to a public place rather than your home – suggestions included a park, a food court, a café, some local event, or any other baby-friendly, breast-feeding-friendly, access-to-loo environment. The home host will provide simple refreshments if they are able.
Due to the frequency of meetings, it is predicted our get-togethers will be small and therefore a little less overwhelming for each host. Please send an RSVP or apology if you wish – this may make planning easier. If you miss one week – you won’t need to wait a whole month to see us again and ask advice about something! By providing Adrienne with your cell phone number, last minute changes or reminders will be sent by txt to your phone using a distribution list.
We will evaluate our arrangement and make new agreements as time moves on and our babies are bigger and perhaps have different requirements. Thanks to Whitney for offering to host at her house next week and Lorene the week after. The Monday after that is Nelson Anniversary day so will be a break for Mum’s Group. If you’d like to grab a date to host – please email Adrienne and the list will be available to review at each get-together.

Al & Julie announced Finlay (7lb12) and Cameron (7lb9) Ashcroft arrived on 28 December at Wellington hospital.
Brendon & Rochelle announced Olivia Rose Cross (7lb 5oz) arrived safely at 3pm on Wednesday 4th January after a 14hr labour.
