Angela’s plunket group is going to the movies this Wednesday to see Mission Impossible 3 at 10.30am. We were thinking it would be great to get a few people to come along with babies and also partners, so we have decided to invite Hips & Lips members to come along if they would like to. Cost $9. We are meeting around 10 at the theatre.

Just to let you know the Parents Centre had their Fundraising meeting last night and they have realised that the date for the Ball is the same date as the NZ vs Australia (one time this year) rugby test. So they will be putting the date of the Ball back, perhaps late July or in August. They just have to confirm the DJ and Hall, then they will certainly let us know the FINAL date so we can prepare.

What a wonderful warm and inviting morning we had in Brightwater. I’m so happy we have these get-togethers and people are willing to open up their homes for us. I’m sure it’s great for our babies to socialize and meet their friends once a week. Thanks again Nadine.
Gerd is hosting our next get-together and we have something a little different. Gerd has invited her friend Kim who is an occupational therapist and she will speak to us about baby development. Kim has a client at 11am so she will start talking at 10am sharp at Gerd’s house so people should probably try and aim to be there at 9.45am. Gerd’s place is small so try to leave your capsule/buggy outside so we can all fit. Gerd will be presenting Kim with a petrol voucher for her time and effort so please bring a one dollar donation to Gerd to help with this token of appreciation.

Mel is arranging our Hips & Lips table at the ball for late July/August. Please make sure you let Mel know you wish to reserve your place at our table and let her know how and when you will pay her. The final cost has not been decided yet… but when it is, we will all pay Mel and she will book and pay for our table with the hosts. The ball will start at 8pm at Braemar Hall (opposite Nelson Hospital) and has a mid-winter Christmas theme. There will be a live DJ and complimentary mulled wine on arrival. Supper is provided and ‘pamper’ raffles will be held during the night. We are all dressing up in our formal gear and plan to have a dance or two. Come and join in the fun – this will be a good chance for our antenatal class to get together again 7 months since our last night of class and before we started popping out the wee ones! We also welcome anyone who has joined us at Hips & Lips over this time to dust off that formal dress or suit in the back of the closet and come along for some fun.

We’ve been having a blast at the pool on Friday mornings around 10am. It’s so cute to see our wee babies playing in the water – some of them are getting very confident – especially Astrid and her very advanced kicking skills! It takes a couple of sessions before they start feeling comfortable enough to laugh and splash – then we dunk them under to practice holding our breath! The cost is $4 for Mum & Bub and another $1 for spectators if someone wants to come along to take photos. We spend 15-20 minutes in the toddler pool and then relax in the family spa for another 5-10 minutes before getting out – that’s plently of time for the babies in the pool. Our Monday experiment seemed to work out ok. Several people hosted and invited 2, 3 or in one case, 4 people over to play. I’ve heard there were some awesome bubbles happening at Brigid’s house – and Adrienne had the jolly jumper out at her house for some swinging fun.
If you didn’t get an invitation to a small group, we will try things a little differently next time to make sure everyone is included. This Monday we are going to Brightwater to Nadine’s house!

Plunket, in association with SKIP (Strategies with Kids | Information for Parents), are running sessions to give caregivers and parents the chance to come together in a relaxed environment to discuss topics of interest. Gatherings will have guest speakers come along and present their topic after which participants are free to discuss what has been presented and have a chat over a hot drink. Sessions this term include day sessions on Fridays 10-11am and also evening sessions on Tuesday 6-7pm. All will be held at the Nelson Plunket Parenting Room – 9 Paruparu Road, Nelson. We had such a good time in the pool today! For some it was their first time in the water – we even ducked under! Come and join us on Fridays at 10am – we use the Family Change Rooms because they have a couple of change tables. Adrienne will bring a couple of spare swim naps if you need to buy one ($1) alternatively the pool has them for $2.

We have been offered a class with Libby at the Red Cross Rooms between 6pm-7pm on Wednesday 31st May. I need firm numbers for this class to go ahead. It’s being run in the evening so Dads can come along. Please send me an email with your RSVP so we can let the organizers know whether to go ahead or not. If you can let me know before Wednesday next week, we should have a confirmation by the weekend. A donation of $5 per couple for Red Cross would be appreciated – Libby takes the classes for the Parents Centre for love not money!
