Grape Escape

A lovely, sunny morning tea was had at Grape Escape this week…. the buggies were lined up.

This week we are going to split into two smaller groups and meet at Melissa’s and Julie’s houses. The girls are going to have a doll’s tea party at Isla’s and the boys are going to have a walk on the beach at Finlay & Cameron’s!

Next Get-Together
Mums Monday: Boy’s Bash for all the boy babies & their Mums (don’t forget your buggy)
10:00am Monday 3 July
Julie’s House
31 Crusader Drive, Ruby Bay
540-2328 | 027.654.007
Directions
Drive towards Motueka and when you hit the 70km speed area through Ruby Bay, take the road on the left – Pomona Road, then drive about 50 metres and take the road on the left – Crusader Drive. Drive right to the very end of Crusader Drive, past the roundabout with the olive tree, and up the right of way to the top of the hill. We’re the 2-storey gray house that is the second driveway on the left. Drive all the way up as there is plenty of parking in our driveway.

Next Get-Together
Mums Monday: Girl’s Tea Party for all the girl babies & their Mums
10:00am Monday 3 July
Melissa’s house – 583 Waimea Road, Stoke
Phone: 547 1666
Directions
Coming from Nelson Cruise through Tahuna, continue along Annesbrooke Road, straight through roundabout towards Stoke, at the T intersection where Annesbrooke road meets Waimea Road/Main Road Stoke, turn left. Our house is about 100m along on the right, up a long drive up the hill (up the drive with the blue mailbox and big tree). There is room for about 3 cars to park at the top of the drive, otherwise you will have to park down on Waimea Road, on the opposite side of the road, because there is no parking on our side. There is heaps of room to park at the intersection of Annesbrooke Road and Waimea Road, or a bit further along Waimea Road is Nick Smith’s electorate office and a Church on the corner and they have a big car park. The drive is quite long and steep, so it is a bit of a walk, just head up the drive to the right, past 585, and we are right at the top.

Don’t forget we have a swimming group meeting every Friday at Richmond Pool around 10am. Cost is $4 for Mum & Preschooler and we usually stay for half an hour or so. Future meetings are planned including Jill’s arrangement for us to use the Nelson Rugby Club rooms at no charge on July 10 for a music morning….. bring along your wee one’s favourite song on CD and we’ll have a round-robin singalong! After that we’ll be meeting at Lorene’s house in Bishopdale on 17 July.

If you have an interesting idea for an outing somewhere baby-friendly – let Adrienne know. You may check ahead on the schedule by selecting the “Schedule” button on the menu above. Volunteer to host by sending email to Adrienne

Mel’s House

Thanks to Mel & Harvey for hosting us this week – in the midst of real estate committments. We had a great turnout and we have noticed everyone is starting to talk/sing/squawk/squeal (Isaac!)/shout at each other – the BABIES, I mean! Our resident Cafe Queen pronounced the coffee as GOOD – thanks again Mel!

This week we were going to meet at Rabbit Island for a walk – but the tides are not working in our favour and the weather is not the most pleasant – so we are just going to meet for the coffee bit instead!

Next Get-Together
Mums Monday:
10:00am Monday 26 June

MacMillans

The weather wasn’t kind enough for our walk so we just met up for cake & juice! MacMillans is a great baby-friendly place and have a lovely outdoor area with a baby swing, playpen and box of toys. It was still a little windy so we decided to stay inside this time. Rochelle and Angela were also there but not in the photo.

Mel is hosting us next week – this will be her last host in her Hope home – then Harvey’s family is moving to Mapua!

Next Get-Together
Mums Monday:
10:00am Monday 19 June
Melonie’s house in Hope
Directions: Coming from Richmond, just before the 100km sign (on Main Road), turn right into the carpark for Place for Plants and Hope Gardens. OK to park in the carpark. Come in through the gate on the right hand side of the Hope Gardens shop. Grant will put the two large (but friendly) dogs in the paddock so you’ll hear them bark but they won’t come running! Come into our driveway and the house is on the right.

Monday at MacMillians for CARROT CAKE!

The Parent & Child Xtravaganza was a really fun outing. Lots of babies were photographed – some in buckets and baskets a la Anne Geddes – and the raffles were amazing! A few of us caught up for coffee at the Brewery Café and most of us took advantage of the Book Fair being on at the same time. Well done to Karen Lewis of the Parent’s Centre for her excellent organization – I read in the paper they are planning to make it an annual event.

Mel had second thoughts about meeting at Mitre10 – only because the café there is so COLD and there is really nowhere for the babies to play on the floor. So we’ve made some changes to this week’s get-together and we’ll team up with the Active Movement girls (Paula and Kath) for a walk for those who wish to get some exercise. The walk leaves from Tasman Recreational Resource Centre in Cambridge Street, Richmond at bang on 10am. We’ll walk 2.3km to Bateup Road where we’ll meet those who are driving to MacMillians Café for coffee at 10.30am. Adrienne has arranged for a SENSATIONAL carrot cake to be baked for us and there will be apple & blackcurrant juice as well. You are welcome to buy your own hot drinks – the planned morning tea has already been paid for by Adrienne so throw her a dollar or two if you’d like cake & juice. Once we’ve had a chat and play – we’ll hit the street again and walk back to Richmond.

Next Get-Together
Mums Monday:
10:30am Monday 12 June
Alchemy Café at MacMillans Ceramics
92 Bateup Road, Richmond

Walking Group:
10:00am Monday 12 June
Tasman Recreational Resource Centre
9 Cambridge St, Richmond
(Paula or Kath on 544-3955)
Walking to MacMillians on Bateup Road – approx. 2.3km
We’ll be taking the Trinity->Cautley->Ben Cooper Park->St. James route.

Future meetings are planned including a Rabbit Island beach walk with coffee at Grape Escape June 19 arranged by Carole/Adrienne. We are looking for a host for June 26 and then we’ll have another round of small group coffee & chat mornings on July 3 arranged by Brigid. Then Jill has arranged for us to use the Nelson Rugby Club rooms at no charge on July 10 for a music morning….. bring along your wee one’s favourite song on CD and we’ll have a round-robin singalong!

Next term we are going to have an opportunity to get-together at the Tasman Rec Centre with Paula and Kath doing some exercise as part of their Way2Go programme. They have suggested skipping, badminton and tone-up sessions as activities and will put on coffee for us afterwards. If these sessions are popular, we can do them every third or fourth Monday and Paula and Kath will arrange the activity for us!

Gerd’s House

We had a great talk from Kim the occupational therapist at Gerd’s house – her main points were around how we should look after our backs. Bend from the knees and when we’re playing with the babies on the floor or changing them have them as close to us as possible so we aren’t reaching forward too much. Thanks to Gerd for arranging this. I heard there were a few turn up for the movies this week and still our group of regulars at swimming each Friday morning.

Let’s meet up for the Baby & Child Extravaganza on Monday (Queen’s Birthday holiday). I’ve heard there is a photographer doing baby shots, a ceramic mold for baby feet & hands and lots of other things to see and do. Bring Dads if you can and we’ll catch up at 10am and then perhaps meet up for coffee at 11am wherever they are selling it.
