The Way2Go walk was really, really fun on Monday – shame there was only three of us from Hips & Lips there! I will have to take a survey and choose more popular things to do. The Way2Go team plan to have these walks twice a month – and sometimes bring in guest speakers like nutritionists and pediatricians etc. I would like to choose a couple of their events over the next few months for our group to attend.
Hope to see you all tomorrow night at Smuggler’s Café for dessert night. Let’s meet at 7.30pm at the reserved table for Hips & Lips.  I’ve emailed an updated list of everyone’s phone number in case you can work out some carpooling arrangements with people coming from your suburb.
As Monday is Queen’s Birthday holiday we won’t be meeting – however, the Parent’s Centre Parent & Child Extravaganza and the Book Fair are both on at Founder’s Park on Monday 4 June between 10am – 4pm.
Pam has offered to host on her non-working Wednesday next week since Monday is a holiday. She is now house-sitting in Upper Moutere – so if you’re up for a wee drive to the country on Wednesday morning, see you at 10am! I will post the directions on the website tomorrow. There will be opportunity for outside play – bring your outdoor toys if you wish.

Mums Monday: Pam’s house

Directions: From Richmond, drive down the Appleby Straight and turn left onto the Moutere Highway.   Follow the highway through the Moutere township and keep going (getting close now) soon you will turn a bend to the left just after the community hall and playground.    Coming up on your left you will see Neudorf Rd (also known as Prices corner) The driveway to the house is about 50m from Neudorf Rd on the right – it has a greeen letter box. (no number).
The drive is sealed – keep following it up, you will come to a point where you see a gate and a gravel road – ignore that and keep following the sealed drive right to the top where you will see a yellowish house. Drive right to the end and park in front of the garages. I will open one so just come on up the stairs
Future get-togethers include Whitnie’s house in Hope after Queen’s Birthday weekend then we’re meeting at Nadine’s new house in Lee Valley late July. If you have an interesting idea for an outing somewhere baby-friendly – let Adrienne know. You may check ahead on the schedule by selecting the Schedule button on the website. Volunteer to host by sending email to Adrienne.

Thanks to Rochelle for hosting this week and keeping the littlies busy with bouncing and toys and the Mums busy with baking & coffee!

Â
Next week we will join with the Way2Go team for another walk. This time they will instruct us on 7 different walking techniques and interval walking. They plan to have a Mum and Baby walk on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month – we could join them every couple of months or so if we find it valuable. Coffee is back at the old Town Hall where we will be meeting.

Many two and three year olds go through an aggressive phase. But with love and firmness you can show them how to behave.
Toddlers hit and bite, kick and punch because it is a sure fire way to get your attention, something your children crave. You need to show them that it doesn’t work.
As soon as he hits out (don’t wait) tell him that because he has hit or bitten he must now sit in ‘time out’ for two minutes (use a minute for each year of his life). Say this as calmly as you can and then don’t say anything else. Next, lead him firmly but kindly to a designated chair (preferably one from which his feet can neither touch the floor nor kick the walls) and leave him to sit.
Do not send him to his room or to the bottom step. You need to keep an eye on him, and he needs as few distractions as possible. A chair in the kitchen is great.
If he gets up, take him back immediately. Tell him that the time out will only begin when he is sitting. Put your hand on his leg to encourage him to stay. Do not let him off if he says he’s sorry, he needs to sit still first. Don’t talk to him during his time out or allow any one else to either. Use the two minutes to calm yourself down. When the time is up, ask him to apologise and then forgive and forget. Eventually your toddler will get the message.
Your toddler is learning what he can and cannot do. With time out and your positive and loving attention whenever he is playing well, he won’t need to go on hitting and biting for long.
